First diwali in US

First of all, Shubh Deepawali to all the readers!! It is the second time I am away from home at Diwali (the first time was last year when I stayed back at IIT to be with my friends). The most important change from the last one is that its not a holiday here! And then, I had a mid-term today in the morning (went off well though, actually quite well).

Then had a meeting with Prof. Kale. He was happy with the algorithm I had come up with. I went for a class, submitted an assignment and then rushed off to Mall :) ... he he he yeah for shopping. I had to get my Fossil wrist watch changed and get a scarf for myself at the Gap store. Had promised to take Amy for the Diwali puja at HSC. So she came to the Mall, picked me up and then we went to Wesley Foundation for the puja. Hita had come there and so we had a fun time!

We then went to the quad where more than a thousand candles were to be lit. We were late and so when we reached the view was spectacular! With the lighted follinger auditorium in the background the whole area was looking fabulous. For the first time in the day, it looked like diwali. I was so very happy.

We clicked photographs and then went home in Amy's car. We cooked kheer for dinner, used it as prasad. We had also brought a few candles from the Quad which we lit up on our balcony. It was later in the night when I was standing alone there that I felt like I was at my home in sector 5 in bokaro seeing the candles simmering in the cold! Happy Diwali to me .....

Alone at the Union

When I woke up from sleep, I saw that the bus had already stopped somewhere and Ashutosh was nudging me to start moving. I opened my eyes to make an effort to move and after some streching finally came out. As soon as I had set my feet outside, everything dawned on me - I was standing on foreign soil in the university which I was soon going to join. And from the look of the hostile surroundings it seemed that nobody had materialised to pick me up.
